INDEPENDENT FOSTERING PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED

Fostering panels play a vital role in the approval and review of all of our fostering Families.

Panels usually sit once a month and review the assessments and supporting information on prospective Foster Parents. The aim is to come to a recommendation of whether or not families should be approved as Foster Parents. Panels may also be requested to make recommendations on fosterers following significant events in the household.

We pay expenses and a fee to cover the work undertaken by panel members. This can include up to 3 hours’ preparation time followed by up to 3 hours in the panel meeting. We offer full support and training to those who do not have panel experience. Also, as one of up to ten members, you can be gradually inducted into our process.

Independent members are usually recruited for specific roles on panels. We’re continually looking to update our central list of panel members. Previous panel experience isn’t essential, as training will be provided. At present, we’re looking for people with skills/experience within a healthcare background, Educational background etc. The panel will be located at our head office in Ashford.

Social work applicants need to hold a social work qualification and have at least 3 years’ experience in either placing or supervising children in foster care. Applicants will need to have good communication skills and have some understanding of the functions of a Fostering Panel and fostering processes, including the legislative framework that underpins Panel work.

Applicants must have the ability to work well with others and have time available to read Panel documents electronically prior to Panel.

Panel members will only be recruited within reasonable travelling distance and preferably from within the local community.

We are looking at recruiting panel members from a wide variety of backgrounds including:

  • Ex-service users
  • Foster carers who are registered with another agency

Could you do it?

Becoming a Foster Carer is challenging, difficult, rewarding, fulfilling...

As a carer, you have the opportunity to change the lives of vulnerable children and young people who are unable to live with their biological family. You will play an integral part in helping a child find stability and security, and will have the opportunity to watch as they thrive in your care. It may be a short or long-term placement, but however long a child stays in your home, you are providing a safe, nurturing environment during a difficult period in their life.

Foster children have the right to feel like part of a family, to develop self-confidence and achieve their potential in life. Together with our Foster Carers, we strive to change the lives of our Looked After Children for the better.
